I've got to disagree with the whole idea of just using electric cars instead. Producing electricity at a plant in order to charge your car requires just as much fossil fuel.

Using hydrogen wouldn't work either for the same reason... except worse, since producing hydrogen through electrolysis requires even more electricity than the other option.

(Now I could be wrong but I can't check at the moment. Let me know if you do before I get a chance. The problem with this sort of thing is that even scientists all seem to have different opinions.)

you don't have to burn fossil fuels to generate power.
what about power plants based on the:
heat of the earth, waves and dams!

Yeah but we really don't have enough of those. Dams also cause their own set of problems. I'll grant you that if we had enough geothermal plants I think it could work. Researchers have recently made some capacitors with much higher surface areas that could be substitued for current batteries and they charge much faster... like in a few minutes instead of a few hours.
