Well, I was going to have a 7 hour layover in Amsterdam while the rest of my family went on an earlier flight because the tour company was stupid, but we talked to the transfer agents and they got me on the plane with my family. Actually, I just got back from that flight and am massively jet-lagged.
Once I was traveling from Maui to Vancouver then to Calgary to get home. Out first flight was delayed a bit so my mom was worried we might not catch the next one. So when we got there we ran like heck, pushing through everyone. Then it turned out that that flight had been delayed anyway... so we rushed for nothing... hurrhurr.

Well, there was this one time, when I was flying out from London to Chicago. The security line was atrocious so I tried to stay close to these four German guys, make it look like I was with them. Everything was going smoothly until the first German guy's bag went through the x-ray machine. Turns out he had a medieval sword in his bag. While the airport security officer argued with the first guy, the other guys' bags were searched. Turns out ALL of them brought swords.
i once got delayed in NY for 8 hours than delayed in Moscow for 4 hours than on the way back my plane in NY was overbooked and they wouldnt even let me in the lounge to sleep so i watched oprah reruns all night than they rerouted me through 2 more states before sending me home
WARMAGAUNT. Haha, Pilot's lack of sanity just makes my day. Airplanes... Never had any issues, aside from them murdering my ears. Good luck! Do like Pilot and envision the silly airline people as shoes!
I was on a 10-hour flight from Maryland to Germany. The whole plane was comprised of military personnel. For some reason, the in-flight movie was Happy Feet 2. The average temperature on the plane was about 100,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The end result was a bunch of annoyed, jet-lagged, and overheated soldiers and airmen grumbling about penguins.
I got stuck on a transfer from New Jersey for 10 hours due to bad weather in Washington DC, only no one thought of mentioning this to any of the passengers stuck there.
Finally the flight was allowed to go and it wasn't until we swerved around the stormcloud (it was awesome, lightning was jumping from cloud to cloud and all purples and blues), and when we landed in 12 inches worth of rainwater, that we realized what the delays had been about.
The TSA stopped me one time, after already being through security, because a man that had already passed through the area had something he shouldn't have in his bag. This is at 7:30 in the morning. They didn't even know who he was, but they kept me and everyone else in the security area on lockdown for an entire hour. Stupid. Then, a lady from my airline came and asked when this lockdown would be over. She said she could hold are plane for a few minutes if it was going to be over soon. One of the 20+ TSA officers that were just standing around and didn't really know what was going on turned to her and said, "It could take hours." The lady left, and so did our plane. Literally two minutes later, we were released. I was so mad I wanted to punt a dog off a bridge like Jack Black in anchorman! But that isn't even the best part. My ticket was exchanged for a flight later that day (7:00 ish), but suddenly 12 tornadoes came out of NOWWHERE and hit Dallas/Fort Worth (where I was flying from). Hail the size of baseballs was coming down. I didn't get out of there until two days later. Hope that makes you feel a little bit better!
When I was five, my flight from Miami to New York got cancelled because of a hurricane so they made us sit in the airport the whole day to see if the hurricane would keep heading in our direction and it did so they just sent us out of the airport since the weather wasn't too bad yet. They didn't even bother asking if people had a place to stay. I had to stay at my grandparents place for another week so I didn't end up back in New York until a week or so later.
Last year in August, my flight to Miami from New York was delayed an hour until we could get on the flight. Then it had to take a last minute change in the route because there was a storm in Miami so we landed in some other city in Florida instead. And then we had to wait about 4 hours in our seats for the storm to pass because they wouldn't let us go get food to eat. When we finally landed in Miami, everyone's bags were on a different conveyor belt than they told us.
Last July, the plane to Paris was not there. We had another one three hours later and the crew was happy to say "Yipee, this one only has air conditioning missing". I came in Paris at 17h25. I was the only missing person in the flight to Stuttgart starting at 17h20. They did not wait for me.
