Critiques

Alexiuss. “Water fairy”.

I like it that the model is so formally posed, whether that was the artist’s intent or simply an unavoidable technical circumstance of working with such an accelerated flash-speed. The model reminds me of the official portraits of Royalty from centuries past, in which the “story” of the painting is told in the elaborately-designed and intricately-detailed costuming and backgrounding of the otherwise motionless and frozen-faced subject. In this photograph, the model may be forever anonymous to future generations, but the “story” of the “;portrait” is told entirely in the near-magical effect of the splashing water caught in a fraction of a second’s time. That the suggestion of an angel’s wings is revealed – and isn’t any female brave enough to surrender her vulnerable form into an artist’s hands a genuine angel? – is validation of the sort of (possibly mystical) discovery that can only be achieved with the marriage of artist and technology. Some “;pure” artists decry the digitalization of art as the soul-killing death of art. I say that any and every advance in technology, in the hands of the proper artist, will reveal even better glimpses of the human soul, rather than obscure it.

First off, congratulations on the success of this photograph. It is unique in technique and leaves me awed by how you have created it. You really deserve the popularity it has achieved. I admire your patience as well! I can only imagine the amount of work you and your team put into this shoot.
I think the model's expression and pose could be improved, her expression doesn't quite give the impact that the rest of the image does, with the intense movement, and refreshing look of the water. She doesn't seem to embrace it as much. I think that would have made a huge difference.
I like how the water sprays around her neck, almost giving her a necklace, and the trail of water behind her is so elegant.
The nudity is very tasteful, it emphasises her beauty in an innocent way, which is why I would have liked to see her looking more confident. She looks beautiful.
Also, I wonder why you cannot see her feet, I think it may have been framed better with them showing.
I am really awed once again by the technique, your experiment really payed off, it is an incredible idea. I no doubt believe your work inspires many photographers. I am truely a huge fan. Thank you for sharing your artwork with us.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion
Through passion I gain strength,
Through strength I gain power,
Through power I gain victory,
Through victory, my chains are broken.

Give me liberty... or I'll get up and get it myself.

Wow, I can't imagine how long it must have taken to perfect the water splashes. Sure paid off though, it looks nothing short of breathtaking.
