Doombringers! War is upon us! (updated)

Sat Jan 19, 2008, 9:54 AM

While my lawyer deals with the thieves in the EMIRATES HOME magazine from Dubai:

(more info on that in this journal: [link])
(we've given them until 31st Jan to respond to our demands)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...My fans have discovered awesome, yet serious new crimes of the corporations and individuals against starving artists...
I present to you.... me, myself and I on Photobucket:
[link]
Let me clarify this right now:
a) I haven't uploaded a single painting from these to photobucket
b) Wheres my credit and website link, bitches?
c) There's a whole bunch of crappy manips. WAH!
Why the hell is there so much of my stuff there?! What is photobucket, exactly?
I've been told that photobucket sells prints now!
Who is making money off those prints?
I'm not too sure on how exactly the print system on photobucket works and who gets the money.
Is it the people at the store.qoop (a division of photobucket) ?
If that is true, then Photobucket won't like me when I'm angry....
Photobucket really has to complicate things by not having a "report violation" button anywhere.
Any suggestions on what to do about this issue? Ideas?
Now, some of you are suggesting I slap giant watermarks everywhere. I don't believe that it is the answer:
Because:
a) I actually want my fans to have desktops of my art, save my art on their hardrive, and enjoy it watermark-free and sexy looking
b) There is already thousands of un-watermarked copies of my art floating around the net, if you just google my name. I can never catch all of them.
c) Locking things up and disabling right clicking isn't the answer. People can easely go around that with "print-screen".
Do you keep your kids locked in the basement? No, you teach them about dangers of outside and then let them go.
Same thing applies here! We have the power to change the world! We have the power to stop thieves! Hiding art behind watermarks isn't the answer! When a German rock concert stole my artwork for their advertisement: [link] the community was actually able to convince the designers to pay me for the use of the image.
UPDATE:
Looks like there's a petition going around to stop photobucket from selling prints:
Help out by signing it!
Make a journal post about the issue! Let more DA artists know about it!
This is such fun. i have inadvertently distracted you from the important message above. So if you read this just remember I have just wasted a few seconds of your life that you will never get back.
Yeah, There's a petition going on to make Photobucket disable the Prints feature. Here's more info on it [link]
It's getting really big.
:iconmattyohh:
Dude, the internets are a seriously shitty place. There's so much theft, and so little that can be done about it, because laws are still catching up with the internet, It used to be a massive legal greay area.
These thiefs are idiots, but you should secure your deviations with a watermark or something like that.
Wow it almost makes me glad that my art sucks too much for anyone to want to steal it.
... wait....... hmm
No there is no end. Reason is that so far technologies give us possibility to copy things but didn’t give us possibility to track information on good enough level. Imagine for example that you could upload your picture to google search and see all similar pictures arranged by date of upload to net. So you will see who was first and who is (not 100% but in most cases it will be right) is the creator. And such technologies exist. It just takes time them to emerge to a level when they will be used.
Thing is that there are hundred of millions people in the net and they can make thefts. You just can't stop them all. So it's kind of pointless... Today it is Dubai. After a week it will be in China and then may even in Russia (though it will be easier for Alexious to get them there :D ) Anyways. I see only one solution to this. First step will be information similarity search algorithms emerging(already happens) and then when it will be working on good enough level will come trough age of virtual market as I described it here: [link]
There are many nowadays problems even with modern real life commercial barter system. For example we ourselves advertise products we like but we don’t get anything for it. Then in internet it comebacks back on to creators. Now fans can get money and creators may not... And it is only one problem and it will be possible to make it all right there… If you want to know about those ideas then read it and comments.
