INEPT EBAY SALESMAN PART 2

Journal Entry: Tue May 14, 2013, 9:00 PM
Just got another reply from stores.ebay.ca/lecanvas (the ebay store that is selling works by simply taking random artworks from the internet including mine).

Here's what he wrote:

Hi
I am the owner of this shop and all these images are bought or made by me and I take full responsibility for all of them.
Your image is on PUBLIC DOMAIN, you should know that and do something about it.

Made by you? Public domain? What? Since when?
When will the lies end?
Feel free to go through his ebay store gallery and see how many other artists you can find that are apparently "public domain" and "made by him".

Copyright does not expire until around 50 years after the artists death, and last time I checked, you are not dead. >:I And even if you are, it is certainly not 50 years after your death already. Unless somehow I lost complete and utter track of time again.

He needs to go and read up on copyright laws. Honestly, if you have the power to do so, go and sue him. Nothing goes into the "public domain" unless given explicit permission by the artist, or when the copyright wears off.

Stupid art thieves.

Here's a fun option; everyone here go and buy one of his items from eBay that you KNOW is stolen. Then, refuse to pay, and when eBay asks why put down that after buying you discovered that the art used was stolen.

I've built websites for people selling prints, including those with eBay shops. Most of them are chancers that will take anything and sell it until told that legal action will ensue if the images aren't removed from sale. Contacting eBay directly your best course of action - most store owners will respond in the way this guy has. Many of the people I've worked for have had stern warnings and / or had their eBay stores taken down because of this. In fairness to eBay, and as much as it pains me to say it, they are very tough on copyright infringement when it's flagged - it's happened to me myself and they were swift in rectifying it.
