i enjoyed the beginning of the story where they were having fun in a way to past the time in an apocalyptic world and easy to follow story line to it then when Caner came the plot got more interesting but its just confusing me now with Amber and reading the wiki some what help but fail. there are plot holes to be filled and stuff missing/explanations to be shown and i feel the story is going off topic from apocalyptic world to scifi...i think Amber is a future decedent of Snippy centuries later but thats a huge jump...eventually the story would make scene but if nearly 2,000 people is confused with the story line then something is completely wrong...a lot. and in the books are there the journal entries/extra text in them
It bothers me that you have to read the wiki to understand what's happening and I DON'T EVEN THINK THE PLOT IS THAT COMPLICATED, it's just that the comic itself doesn't explain much, don't know if it's meant to be like this cause the author wants to be cryptic and experimental or it's just a narrative failure.
As much as I love the comic, for me RA is losing the ability to tell a history and becoming a secuence of amazing drawings.
I am kinda working it out as I go along, and am absolutely positive that by the end of zee arc all zee answers shall be revealed. Or I'll just keep guessing as to what's happening and hope I get it right. I'm pretty certain though Snippy just lost his status as a 'sane' member of the group.
I read the RA wiki, and I'm still confused as fuck. BUT the name "ANCESTOR" arc made me think of Homestuck. And suddenly some things appear even clearer to me, and yet I don't realize what they actually are, but there they are.
Oh. Well, how about that. I thought I was confuzeled, but after reading zee wiki turns out I wasn't after all. I guess I've managed to follow this arc rather well so far. Just need to use a bit of ~imagination~ to connect the dots...
Amber is, just like the Caveman was, Snippy. Its Cancer Fu*ing with him again. I can see the Chalisite as Pilot, though just because of the devotion. As someone said before I think it is the far future after Lifealope has helped the planet heal, with some kind of eternal battle with Cancer.
Though looking at Wiki may work for some people but this is how Alexius decrees the story is progressing and being revealed. Wiki is cheating. It's far more fun this way anyway.
Nah. It only states what has occurred. And is a good reminder of things that might have been forgotten. It's helpful, but it doesn't solve any of the mysteries. You still need to come to your own conclusions.
The show Lost was once a favourite of mine. It was so incredibly enjoyable trying to figure out all the mysteries. So I was rather devastated to discover that the creators were making it up as they went along. Still, that would have been fine if they had kept the lines of the story connected. Instead, they stopped bothering to connect the threads of the mysteries they had created early on in favour of maintaining current mystery. It was still a very good story, but it failed at being a great story.
As long as RA never goes that far, then I am happy to try and figure out the riddles, and hope for the answers to reveal themselves. If, however, we never find out why the frak the bug and the mug and the frakking STRAW started talking to Snippy, I'm going to be damned pissed off! <lol>
I'm very confused by the current story because this interlude with Amber is like stepping into another story rather than one of Snippy's ancestors' lives. There is too much that suggests it is a future moment. In the context of what we've been understanding as happening, that is, Snippy experiencing memories of his ancestors, it feels like a misstep to throw us into a future time without explanation. Granted, RA does not use comic conventions such as little balloons proclaiming: ["Sometime in the far future. . ."], but damn, maybe it could use Something as a signpost if the story is going to jump around like this!
As a final note, now I kinda want to see a story all about Amber's world. RA spin-off???
im slowly trying to unravel the pieces in my head. i get some of the how's but i dont get any of the why's of anything going on. i keep reading because i know the why's will be revealed over time and the comic is always enjoyable
I still love RA, but even after re-reading various issues and text about 4 times and visiting the wiki, I'm only gradually understanding the current story arc better. I've formed some theories to try and make sense of things, but I know they're likely going to be wrong.
I won't lie; as much as I'm enjoying the depth of the Ancestor Arc, I feel like the direction the comic is going is like trying to put a 1000 piece puzzle together without having the box for visual aid. Each new piece we get for the current story arc confuses me further, but I just put it in the pile, certain that I will eventually find a place for it, and that everything will tie in eventually.
I don't mind the idea accompanying text with the comics, but I feel like it was executed better during the Cancer Arc. The comics themselves provided an adequate idea of what was going on without having to rely too heavily on the accompanying text or a trip to the Wiki. The occasional journals were like bonus material on the characters' pasts or what's going through their minds.
I think the people who are complaining about the story becoming too book-like are forgetting the limitations that are put on comics. They're just a series of pictures. You can't show extreme detail without going into extreme detail and slowing the story down horribly, which can easily lose readers. It's just not cost-effective, especially at this level.
It's the same way with animation -- you have to be able to cut the final frame count to as small a number as possible, because each extra one costs money, and every second you slow the story down you can lose the attention of the viewer. Sadly, that means you won't be able to delve into the very depths of each and every characters' past and traits as we have been in RA, but "que sera sera". Now, that's not to say things can't be slow and very much loved as well, but it's extremely rare to find gems like that.
Now, more back on topic: I'm with Engie here. I understand some things, but I also know that others will not and cannot make more sense until the arc as a whole is complete. I learned that during our time sifting through everyone's minds and memories with Cancer, and I accept it. Actually, it makes me excited to see what will happen~
I don't understand why everyone is freaking out and saying it's "booklike" and that you need the text to understand. I understood everything just fine (at least until the most recent comment, that melted my brains). I think that the text is just a little more detail for it. owo I still and always will love RA. Keep up with the epicness. <3
